Google Chrome is a very popular browser that is very widely used by people primarily because of its speed and ease with which it can be used. Also, many of the Google services that are commonly used by everyone on their android phones, as well as PCs are integrated into the browser. However, occasionally issues do occur with these services and one such issue is Google Sync paused. This can be annoying especially for those who alternately use their android phone and computers. Shared below are steps to fix when Google sync is not working.

Step 1: Temporarily Disable Antivirus Software

Sometimes certain antivirus software may conflict with Google Sync features and can cause issues. So, if you come across any such issues, try this as the basic step and check if it resolves the problem. Follow the steps below to disable Windows Defender, the native antivirus software of Windows 10.

  • Search for “Windows Defender” by typing in Defender” in the search box on the taskbar.
  • Open Windows Defender security settings.
  • In it, select “Virus & threat protection”.
  • Next, click on “Virus & threat protection settings” located on the right-hand side of Windows Security Centre.
  • In the screen that appears next, turn off “Real-time protection” and this will temporarily disable the antivirus.

Now, check whether the Google Sync issue is resolved, if not then uninstall antivirus completely and follow the step below.

Step 2: Sign Out And Sign In Your Google Account

You can also resolve the Google Sync issue by turning it on or off. This is done by signing out and then signing in again to start syncing data when Google Sync paused. This is done by following the steps listed below.

  • Open Google Chrome and click on the 3 vertical dots at top right corner.
  • From the menu, select “Settings”.
  • To the right of your Google account name click on the “Turn off” button.
  • A pop up window will appear asking “Turn off sync personalization?”, click on the “Turn off” button.
  • After sometime, repeat the first three steps and click on the “Turn on sync” button.
  • Enter your Gmail account details to sign in, then you will get a prompt asking whether you want to “Turn on sync?”, click on “Turn on”.

Now, check whether your Google Sync issue is resolved, if not follow the next step.

  • In the URL bar at the top type in “chrome://settings/syncSetup” and hit enter.
  • This will open advanced sync settings on Chrome browser.
  • Click on “Data from Chrome sync”.
  • In the “Data from Chrome sync” page click on the “RESET SYNC” button.
  • Next click “Ok” to start the process.
