Troubleshooting No Sound In Chrome Error

No Sound In Chrome

No Sound In Chrome

Google Chrome is one of the most popular web browsers and this is attributed to its intuitive user interface. As a result, it is the primary browser for many users and any issue with it can be frustrating. One of the most annoying problems is when it fails to play audio and the easiest way to fix it is by restarting the chrome browser. However, this might not always work and there are different ways to fix it.

What To Do When Chrome Sound Not Working?

You begin by checking whether the audio is working on other browsers and if it is not, then check whether the sound is muted. If there is still no sound after following the above steps, then try the solutions listed below.

Try Updating The Sound Driver

One of the first solutions, when anything goes wrong with the computer audio is to try updating the sound drivers. You can download the latest drivers compatible with your device from the manufacturer’s website and install it manually. The alternative method is to use software that automatically updates all kinds of drivers including audio.

Check The Audio Using Volume Mixer

If the above method didn’t work then use the volume mixer to check the volume for different applications. This is done by going to the lower right section of the taskbar and right-clicking the sound icon. Select ‘Open volume mixer’ form the list and move the volume slider bar up to an audible level. Then, restart chrome and play audio content on the browser.

Try Clearing Browser Cookies a And Cache

Web pages install temporary files called cookies and cache to improve the loading speed of their website. However, with time a lot of these temporary files get accumulated and cause browser issues including no audio. So, if the previous method didn’t work then try clearing cookies and cache. This is done by first launching the Chrome browser and then clicking on the three dots at the top right corner close to the address bar. From the menu that appears choose ‘more tools’ and select ‘Clear browsing data’ and select period for clearing data.

Make Sure That The Web Page Is Not On Mute

You have to ensure that the webpage that you are visiting is not on mute. This is done by the pressing ‘Windows Key + R’ and entering ‘inetcpl.cpl’ in the command window. In the window that appears next, go to the advanced tab and in it scroll down to the ‘multimedia section’. In it select ‘Play sounds in web pages’ and save the changes by clicking ‘Apply’ and ‘OK’. Then, restart chrome and play audio content from the web page.

These are some of the ways how you troubleshoot when there is no sound in Chrome.
