Disable Browser Extensions

Freezing of Google Chrome tabs is a constant issue that people tend to face while surfing the web on a Windows 10 PC. It is often due to an incompatibility between the OS and the browser. Below are some troubleshoots to help if Google Chrome keeps freezing on your Windows 10 PC so that you can make the most of a browsing session with open tabs.

Disable Browser Extensions

Extensions are plugins that gives additional capabilities like virus scanning and so forth to the web browser. However, sometimes browser extensions tend to malfunction due to coding errors or compatibility problems. Follow the below steps to clear the freezing tabs on Chrome, assuming that they may be due to browser extension.

  • Open Google Chrome, enter chrome://extensions on the address bar, and Enter to navigate the path.
  • Once you reach the screen of browser extensions installed in Chrome browser, simply clear the checkmark on plug-ins shown as Enabled in order to disable one.
  • Disable the plugins one by one and crosscheck in order to know if the freeze has been resolved to your satisfaction. If not, maybe there is more than one plugin that is causing the tab freeze on Google Chrome; disable all plugins and extensions together and see if the problem is fixed.
  • Further, once you spot a browser extension on Chrome that seems problematic, click on the Trash icon next to Enabled in order to delete it altogether from the browser.
